Collaborative Work
COLLABORATIVE ARTWORK --FROM JIM & KOLSOUM GINNEY
My husband, Jim, and I have worked together to create a group of artworks that are unusual in their collaborative effort. He begins with his photographic image, that he thinks has magic, as well as inspiration, and then adds to it his knowledge of digital tools to re-create a new form for that image so it glows with life. We both look at it carefully and we work together to enhance it even further
Afterward, I take that piece of artwork and overlay it with ideas and insights that have come to me as I look at it. I often begin with subtle colors worked in Prismacolor pencils, and then add the iridescent layers of the pen, shimmering watercolor, and, sometimes, gold paint. As I work on the piece it begins to speak to me and talk to me about its life and I find myself engaged in the dialogue about these pieces while continuing with Jim’s original image. They usually take several hundred hours to complete, sometimes 200-300 hours of meticulous work.
Finally, when I feel that they have matured, I finish them-- often with the additional layers of iridescent pen and paint. When completed they glow with shimmering light. It is very satisfying for us to work together with our art in this way, and it deepens and strengthens an already beautiful artistic collaboration that is our marriage. We both hope that these images bring beauty and peace into your world.
